I have had a similar problem with the same garbage, beginning with:
$!PS-Adobe-3.0
%%Creator: (OpenOffice.org 2.4)
%%For: (vim)
%%CreationDate: (...)
In the above 'garbage' my name (vim) occurs. The date and time in
(....) are those of the print attempt. I have had this problem since
about the 13th of a month. Because of some ambiguity in my log, but my
confidence is about 90% that the month was August. So I probably had
this problem since August 13, 2008. Prior to that Ubuntu would print my
documents just fine. The print software of Ubuntu has not worked
normally ever since. At the time I had Ubuntu 7.02. Yesterday I
upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 and I still have the problem. My printer is a
Canon MultiPASS C3000.
I did a search "with all these words":
print* "%!PS-Adobe-3.0" Ubuntu problem
I got 138 hits, many indicating similar problems.
