I tried in Ubuntu. Here are the findings:

The PPDs for both the FS-1000+ and FS-1010 are different from the FS-
1010_en.ppd that you linked. In particular, the FS-1010.ppd file which
installed by Ubuntu has FileVersion = "1.1" while the linuxprinting.com
ppd file has FileVersion = "8.2", among numerous other differences.

Before trying the echo command you suggested, I thought it would be a
nice idea to confirm what the printer does using the default Ubuntu
FS-1010 ppd. So I installed it, and printed a test page via USB port. Lo
and behold, it worked perfectly :-\ The test page says FS-1010 driver
version 2014.108, Revision 93.

But I tried the command nonetheless, after closing all running apps but
the terminal. Gives me a 'bash: permission denied' everytime.

Anyhow, before closing this bug report I suggest testing whether the
FS-1010 driver somehow miraculously started working for everyone else as
well (was there an update after edgy was released?). Please wait a
couple of days while I get some of my friends to test this.

Thanks a lot!
