Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I found a solution on ubuntu forums that worked for me. Dont know if this will work for all of you but on my Toshiba satellite it worked. Just add the block given below to your \etc\X11\xorg.conf file and see if it works. Just paste it below the input device section. After adding this you will need to log out and log back in.
