hi, i am happy to say that syspend works, almost always fine. As every so often there is a message on ubuntu desktop saying that there was a problem while suspending. but it suspends and resumes fine. i am using the proprietary NVidia driver from ubuntu repository.
however, hibernate does not show any sign of improvement. it either closes the X server and then returns to the login screen, or turns off (as if hibernating) but never resumes when powered on. i do not have my machine at the moment, but i will post any logs, and X configuration by tomorrow. thanks for looking into it.
