Public bug reported:
If I try to create a user with the username, say, John.flux then it
complains that the "." is not a valid character.
If I create the user on the command line (with adduser), it works. I
have now been using the username "john.flux" for the last year in Ubuntu
with no sideeffects or problems at all. It appears to be entirely safe
to do so.
The reason that I need to have this username is for the revision control
system that the company uses. My windows username is "John.Flux" and so
my linux username needs to be the same. The revision control system
uses the username for commits etc.
I should add that this 'problem' occurs in both the gnome and kde frontends.
