i knew i shouldn't doubt ubuntu ;) it was not a bug, but a plain user error...i aplogoize.
Here's the solution: on your Terminal Services Client, make sure you have ticked the checkbox 'Enable window manager's key bindings' under the PERFORMANCE tab. It was the only thing missing, now everything works fine.
