I believe you are looking for the terminal. If you go to applications -> accessories -> terminal the GNOME terminal will open. This is the most common command line interface (CLI) in ubuntu used to enter commands.
A little research online is telling me that shell and terminal are not quite the same thing but are often used interchangably. Im still a bit fuzzy on the shell concept. If you are not looking for the terminal my apologies. As for your sound issues I am unable to help as of yet. If you could discover what sound card you have a search online would likely lead you to a place where other people have run into your problem. Unfortunately I don't know the appropriate command to tell you what sound card you have. As a side note the next ubuntu release intrepid ibex 8.10 is due out in 6 days and is in release candidate stage as of yesterday. You could look into upgrading or installing intrepid which may possibly solve your problem but may also cause some other bug to occur. -- I have no sound. Computer says I have an AC 97, and the help page says to open a shell and type the code in. Being new to Ubuntu, I dont know where to find a shell! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288472 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
