I experience sililar problems with echoes and skips every second or so, but
* the playback does _not_ repeat until the process is closed.
* I have another sound card:
lshw -c multimedia:
  *-multimedia
       description: Audio device
product: 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller
       vendor: Intel Corporation
       physical id: 1b
       bus info: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:00:1b.0
       version: 01
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list
       configuration: driver=HDA Intel latency=0 module=snd_hda_intel
* While moving windows fast and randomly (Gnome), the movement stops every two
seconds or so for a short moment. It really does not disturb me, but it might
be these stops result from the same reason as the skips in the sound playback.

To be honest, I'm quite disappointed. I just changed from Gentoo, where
the drivers worked fast and smooth and the applications were buggy to
Ubuntu: Now the desktop is doing what I want, but slower, and in one
week the second driver is buggy.
