Indeed, I have now found that there is an option to print double-sided.
However, this can not be accessed through the gtk-printing dialogue, but
rather only through System->Administration->Printers->Options (see the
attached screenshot).

But more importantly, having that option enabled, the printer does not
print with a manual duplexing mode, asking me to put the sheets into the
printer again having printed half of the document, but rahter prints it
out normally, one-sided.
