Hi Fastguy, this bug & workaround is specifically for SAA7134-based cards, and it is only about LIRC being unable to grab the device, because HAL did it earlier.
In any case, whatever the chipset you have, you may be having a driver problem, or a lirc misconfig (since you seem to have the basics working). Really this does not seem related to this bug.
