Thank you for taking the time to file this report and help improving
Ubuntu.
The issue about meta-packages being uninstalled if you uninstall some
package that they depend on has been solved in Ubuntu Intrepid, to be
released at the end of this month. Backporting of this change into Hardy
and other previous Ubuntu versions is unlikely, but as Xtophe said, you
can safely remove meta-packages.
