I am having the same problem. I found that changing the video output to use OpenGL allows the video to play, but it causes a lot of problems with the rendering of the desktop. I'm using the open source ATI drivers as well as Compiz. Using X11 output or XVideo output both crash VLC. Everything else seems to work...even the ascii output plugins, but who really watches video in ascii output :)
I also get similar output by running VLC from a console window: [????????] x11 video output error: X11 request 140.19 failed with error code 8: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 140 (XVideo) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 () Serial number of failed request: 90 Current serial number in output stream: 91 -- [intrepid] vlc crashes right after start with every video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281743 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
