I could not actually reproduce your bug. Every attempt to
install/uninstall drupal5 went smoothly.
I've noticed in the provided log file the following errors:

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket

Is your database configured correctly, and did you enter the right
credentials ?
