Thank you for taking the time to file this bug report and help to
improve Ubuntu.
Unfortunately I don't see that there's any actionable request here that
applies to the pam package. The libpam-ldap package already integrates
with pam-auth-update in Ubuntu 8.10; the libpam-ccreds package does not,
but that's a wishlist bug against the libpam-ccreds package, not against
pam.
I don't think it's at all realistic to have a generalized front-end for
*module*-level configuration of PAM, precisely because of the complexity
involved. We should integrate as many pam module packages as possible
with pam-auth-update, and that should cover the vast majority of cases;
beyond that, trying to manipulate module options with a front-end will
just make the front-end unusable for users who don't need this
granularity.
