Bug has been confirmed with the latest intrepid beta. I was able to boot
into the system only after blacklisting rtl8180. If the module is loaded
and I try to bring wlan0 up (either by NetworkManager or manually), the
whole system freezes.

The problem is not NetworkManager, but the kernel module itself, as
after replacing NetworkManager with wicd I got the same problem of
rtl8180 freezing the system.

The best option would be to blacklist this kernel module before shipping
8.10 final.
