Since upgrading to Intrepid Ibex, this issue is fixed for me. At least,
it is with suspend: I haven't tried with hibernate because my swap
partition is too small.

I upgraded over the weekend, so I was using packages from Oct 25.
Current versions:
linux-generic: 2.6.27.7.11
network-manager: 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1
