Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: network-manager
Hello!
I'm having some trouble with the network manager in Intrepid (up to
date). I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop that has both Ethernet and
WiFi connectivity.
The NM applet can handle both, but the Ethernet connection never starts
automatically. In the "wired" tab of "Edit connections" I have an entry
called "Ifupdown (eth0)" (which is weird, since my Ethernet connection
is labeled eth1*). It appeared there automatically, I'm sure I didn't
add it myself.
(*: I noticed that something, hal I think, changes its name from eth0 to
eth1 on every boot; I have no idea why.)
Anyhow, in its property page the "Connect automatically" flag is unset.
If I try to set it and press OK, I receive the error "Updating
connection failed: nm-ifupdown-connection.c.82 - connection update not
supported (read-only).." — and nothing changes. In fact, I can't seem to
change anything on that property page, including its name.
I've noticed a few other bugs about NM not connecting automatically, but
it never seems to be about wired connections. What should I do?
(Wireless was disabled when taking this:)
