Jonathan, the low disk space might certainly be a reason, but I am downloading the ISO right now to confirm. In the meantime can you please boot in verbose mode (press ESC at boot after "Kubuntu") and provide the syslog when ubiquity fails? More points if you can add "set -x" in /bin/autopartition-loop before ubiquity starts (break=bottom).
