I have the same the screen is black and the system don't respond at all. All I can do is to CTRL+ALT+DEL to make it reboot.
But if I add "Option *VBERestore" "true"* to the xorg.conf file it works. Using Dell D610 laptop, Intel graphic 91x ser.
