Do you have the linux-backports-modules package installed?  If not, can
you try installing.  I believe the ath5k driver was disabled in the
kernel and those wanting to use the driver need to have linux-backports-
modules installed which contains an updated version of the driver.

Also, can you attach the output of 'sudo lspci -vvnn' so we know which
wifi card you have?  Thanks.
