I am running ubuntu inside vmware workstation 6.5. I got this error while starting up Synaptic package manger.
My configuration: Linux ubuntu 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Wed Oct 22 01:30:40 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux Running GNOME desktop, I haven't figured out how to find out the version number I have been using yet under ubuntu. It seems to me that Synaptic package manager is painfully slow to start and using a lot of resources. I got very different experiences with Fedora and OpenSuse under Vmware. I tried to install yum or rpm, but for some reasons I am able to configure them correctly.
