Binary package hint: update-manager-core
When attempting to upgrade hardy to intrepid ( do-release-upgrade -d ),
the process appears to freeze at "Calculating the changes". Pressing
any key will cause the prompt to return. There are no error messages on
the terminal. Checking the /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log I find the
following errors:

It seems the failure comes due to the nvidia card model. The terminal
output to the user offered no information (nor questions as shown in the
log file). The full log file (with multiple attempts at upgrading) is
attached.
