That was @ubuntu_demon, who actually appears to have a different bug. For the first two posters, I'd suspect that you were hit by the accidental install of the nvidia drivers at one point of the Intrepid cycle. Can you check whether any of the nvidia-glx-* packages are installed, and if so, whether removing them fixes the problem for you?
