AFAICT, Intrepid is indeed affected. I just upgraded. Never had any problems with 8.04, but since upgrading to 8.10 I see the same behaviour (switching between two X sessions and the machine locks up) There are two small differences, so I am not 100% sure if this is the same bug:
1) it does not happen every time. 2) sometimes the machine freezes even before switching, i.e. I try to switch from session A to session B and the box freezes while the desktop of A is still visible.
