A good workaround:
nx7400 - text in login input line is far too big:
Edit gdm.conf file and add the -dpi 96

[server-Standard]
name=Standard server
-command=/usr/bin/X -br -audit 0 -dpi 96

That was the final solution for me.
In my personal opinion, this bug can't be solved by the ubuntu team beacause it 
is caused by a wrong valued on the specified system: an exception must be 
created but an exception is non a solution... it is just a permanent workaround!
