I think this is a result of the move from bash to dash in Ubuntu. Try using a
¨sh¨ in front of the command. As an alternative,
http://www.real.com/realcom/R?href=http://forms.real.com/real/player/download.html?f=unix/RealPlayer11GOLD.deb
is now available. This is installed using
sudo dpkg -i RealPlayer11GOLD.deb
I can not reproduce this error since I do not have RealPlayer11GOLD.bin
