This happens on my machine too, a toshiba u300 series (u305-s5127). I use the combination, CtrL+ALT+F1 then CtrL + ALT + F7 to workaround. In hardy my volume wheel works fine. And only in hardy and in dapper. In Fedora 8 and 9, Mandriva 2008.1, 2009.0, opensuse 10.3 and 11.0 my volume whell doesn't work, in all the other distros i'd the same bug! (sorry about my english, is terrible!). Can I help sending more information ou doing tests ?
