I confirm that the LED isn't working after a clean install on a "ACER TravelMate 4002WLMi" ipw2200 WLAN.
Adding options ipw2200 led=1 to /etc/modprobe.d/options fix the problem and show LED in full bright when connected to WLAN, intermittent on connecting to WLAN and off when manually turned off (by pressing on the button).
