Thanks for the feedback folks. It seems as if all of the problems so far are with printing pdfs. Specifically with printing pdfs from kpdf since tk23 mentioned that printing from xpdf works. It sounds like this might be a bug in kpdf rather than in system config printer.
Two things to confirm this. Do other document types print OK? If either of you have KGhostview installed could you try printing from that. It's an older kde pdf viewer/printer. In some ways tk23's result with xpdf probably precludes this but the sake of completeness lets try. If these two things work then it's a bug in kpdf and not system-config- printer-kde.
