** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gdm

The gdm login screen starts normally, but when I type my username and
password, the letters are huge, they're large enough to not fit in the textbox.
Logging in works though.
I expected the letters to fit the textbox.

+ The problem occurs no matter which gdm theme you choose, I've tried Human,
Human Circle of Friends and Human List.
+ On a gdm theme with a face browser or user list, the usernames in the list
are large also.
+
+ Clicking on Options covers the screen with a blank menu, which you can
+ leave by pressing escape, I think it's related.
+
I've found other instances of this online:
  http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ubuntu-help/125958-huge-letters-my-
  login-window.html and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=731527 ,
- but no one seems to have reported the bug, so I have.
+ but no one seems to have reported the bug, so I have. (BTW, changing the
+ resolution on my laptop has no effect on the login screen, and I have
+ not installed any proprietary drivers.)

This is a fresh installation of Ubuntu 8.10

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache policy gdm
