Hi Gianfranco. I managed a network like yours with a transparent http proxy and a firewall which allow only connection to 443 port and redirect all web connections through the squid proxy. To workaround the Emessene Bug simple go to Options -> Preference -> Connection and tick Use HTTP method. You should now be able to connect fine. Intrepid version is affected by this bug too.
