I have the same problem I think. My motherboard is an ASUS P5Q PRO, with
also an Atheros L1 PCIe LAN port.

When installed, the final version of ubuntu 8.10 detects the conexion
successfully but when I enter in Firefox I can only surf in google. When
I try another webpage it never loads, it's always in process of loading,
but it never finalizes (It's possible that another webpages can load,
but the ones I have tryed don't load).

But there's also another internet problem. I can not access to the
repositories, I tried with different servers from Spain, and other
countries and finally I managed to get connection with one server from
France, the rest of them have no conexion for me. With this server I
managed to install all the ubuntu updates but the LAN problem continues.
For example, I installed the restricted extras, it downloads ok, but
when it tries to connect with HTTP to macromedia to download the flash
plugin the connection is paralised, it is waiting for the download but
nothing else happens.

I think the problem could be related to the protocol HTTP with this LAN
adapter, because with the FTP protocol that I think it uses the
repositories server that I choosed the conection works ok.
