Sorry for the slow response on this ... I just built Inkscape 0.46-devel and got the same result: Inkscape does not import any PDFs. It doesn't crash, but I just get a message "Failed to load the requested file <filename>". It does this even on PDFs that a clean 0.46 handles fine.
