Tochiba Sat Pro with Atheros 5006EG (2424). Wireless not working after upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 RC. Still not working with 8.10 Release. Followed the steps outlined below ..
Removed Restricted Driver Manager Installed linux-backports-modules-intrepid to get the ath5k module) Made sure the appropriate modules had the ability to run by checking /etc/modpribe.d/blacklist /etc/modprobe.d/madwifi (madwifi blacklists the ath5k module) depmod -a and ldconfig (just in case) Wireless working for a short period. Ran updates today (Nov 2) and wireless no longer working. iwconfig shows the wlan0 device, and I can see the AP (as well as my neighbors AP) but NetworkManager never manages to connect. I have attempted with and without security with same results. A dmesg shows the following .. [ 179.371975] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:18:f8:6c:6b:3e [ 179.374444] wlan0: authenticated [ 179.374456] wlan0: associate with AP 00:18:f8:6c:6b:3e [ 179.376671] wlan0: RX AssocResp from 00:18:f8:6c:6b:3e (capab=0x401 status=0 aid=1) [ 179.376680] wlan0: associated [ 179.376921] wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=3) I've seen reports that some folks have managed to get things working by stopping NetworkManager and using iwconfig in terminal, but that is a little too linky for my wife and kids =) Happy to hand over more information if requested.
