I'm on a 945GM (Mac Mini). Worked fine under 8.04, but after upgrade to 8.10 I have a similar problem.
After the system boots the display is fine. I login and then run a video app (mythfrontend) mostly successfully, though there is some occasional tearing that I didn't have under Hardy. After a few minutes the display goes black. Killing and restarting gdm and the Xserver gets me nothing but black screen. The xorg log shows continually repeating (EE) intel(0): underrun on pipe A! in my case Output TMDS-1 is connected to pipe A. It takes a reboot to get the display back.
