Well it wasn't really a big deal. It's different with every BIOS so
there is no exact explanation.  Basically I went into my BIOS and
disabled the embedded sound card (which is called "HD Audio" on my Asus
motherboard).  Once I did that, whatever conflict was going on in 8.10
was resolved the next time I booted.  It should be pretty easy for you
to find, just pop into BIOS and look for something along those lines (if
you have an embedded card).  The only reason why this worked though is I
have external card as well (SB Audigy 2).  If you don't have an external
card than this obviously won't work because then you'll be disabling
your only audio.
