** Description changed: $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 8.10 Release: 8.10 I've recently made a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10. At first I copied the ~/.*/ settings directories, but that caused some problems, so I deleted them and manually changed the settings back to my liking. When I change the illumination setting of the screen via the keyboard shortcuts (fn+uparrow or fn+downarrow) the rest of the keyboard stops responding. That is keys like ctrl+alt+backspace still works. Closing the X server restores the keyboard back to normal. + + UPDATE: Switching to tty1 (and others) and back to X also restores the + keyboard back to normal.
