I seemed to have the same problem. I went under: System \ Preferences \ Sound
I found that AutoDetect was defined - I switched this to my SIS hardware. Now I can play my podcasts, etc. (Note, in my case audio in the Firefox browser would play - nothing from my local audio player software.)
