Hi Marcus, I've booted with pci=noacpi and it appears to be working properly. In fact, I think my problem more resembles bug 273318 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/273318 so I'm going to move over to tracking that bug. Thanks for your help.
