Works now. upgrading to the PPA version fixed it. Another issue, but I'm not sure if this is a bug or I'm uneducated with network-manager but it rewrites my /etc/resolv.conf to use the remote VPN gateway instead of my local gateway. I tail syslog and it sets ppp0 as default for routing and DNS, I want it to go all through eth1.
