Same problem here. Everything was fine with Ubuntu 8.04. Is it the
changed kernel module (ath9k instead of ath5k) or the new network
manager? Any hints how to narrow the problem?

(fyi (low importance) Furthermore the signal strength info is nice at
my home with only one access point; but in the university i have 2 wifi
networks with 19 access points each. In 8.04 the strength information
was correct (the strongest one), now only the panel applet is correct
but the overview widget displays the two wifi with 0% each. )
