Binary package hint: fontconfig
In ~/.fonts.conf, I have:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
<fontconfig>
<match target="font">
<edit name="autohint" mode="assign">
<bool>true</bool>
</edit>
</match>
</fontconfig>
which makes most things look nicer. But some things look _really_bad_.
