ok, let's take this one step at a time: - try running ifconfig. see if you see your wireless interface there - run iwconfig. it should tell you if any wireless interfaces are up - run "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up" (or replace wlan0 with the name of your interface) - run "sudo iwlist wlan0 scan" (this should cause your wifi to scan for access points and print a list) after the above, you should see your wireless interface in your nm-applet
