I can confirm that this bug affects the OS ati driver as well: I use kububtu/kwin and "ati" driver. Desktop effects are on. There is no xinerama section in my xorg.conf. xorg is freezing at random times - I could not detect any pattern yet.
When logging in with ssh from my other machine Xorg process is at nearly 100% CPU, I can kill it only with signal 9, then X starts up fresh to the login screen. Xorg.log spits out a lot of these messages: [mi] mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping. [mi] EQ overflowing.
