If the workarounds help you, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could fill
in Xubuntu-oriented versions of the workarounds.

Meanwhile, please attach the output from the following commands:

 # ddprobe
 # get-edid | parse-edid   (from the read-edid package)
 # xrandr --verbose
