Matthias: One more thing to consider, according to
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16224 : "If I'm not mistaken, EDID
transfers are done in-band and thus will cause the monitor to lose sync.
There's really no way around it. From the recent thread
on the mailing list, it sounds like the solution is to fix GTK to not rely so
heavily on calls to XRRGetScreenResources()."

Disabling TV out did not fix the problem for me. Disabling KDE's randr
service did, though obviously this may not be the correct solution.
