** Description changed:

  Hi there

As I'm new to this and I'm not sure on whether this qualifies as a Bug
  I'll just ask here…

Is this a Bug, when the System gets pretty slow, when switching from an
older Kernel "2.6.15-29-server" to the newer "2.6.24-19-server"?

  Here' what happens:
I'm using a script to back up the www
  tar -pczf /root/cfix_bups/cfix-Day__$yesterday.tgz /var/www/
and send myself an email when it's done, which usually looks like this:

  00:26:13 *WWW Backup start*
  00:29:36 _WWW Backup done_

so it takes about 3-4min — always has been about 3-4min as the data size
in www does not change much.

Then 3 days ago I started using the newer Kernel "2.6.24-19-server" and
noticed my backups took much much longer:

  00:26:30 *WWW Backup start*
  00:44:45 _WWW Backup done_

As I watched this over three days I thought I better switch back to the
"2.6.15-29-server" and sure enough when triggering the backup script I
  got:

  01:30:13 *WWW Backup start*
  01:34:42 _WWW Backup done_

These last two runs where only one hour apart and resulted in these files
      Day__05.tgz │959860K│ 6. Nov 00.46
  xxDay__05.tgz │923081K│ 6. Nov 01.34

So this is 19:15min vs. 4:29min!!??

  Anyone any thoughts on this?

  BTW its a:

  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
  Release: 8.04
  Codename: hardy

+ System RAM 1GB
+
  Cheers
