Public bug reported: I bought a new laptop today, a Haier H51. Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu all work fine on it with two exceptions. (The second exception is the subject of the next bug report.)
The main problem, easily solved, is that the system fails to recognise that the built-in video is an SiS. The solution was to manually edit xorg.conf and put "Driver sis" and the appropriate resolutions into it. Given that the Device Manager recognises the device and names it properly, it would be best if xorg servers could figure this out for themselves. If anybody can give me the appropriate Magic Incantations <tm> for collecting the chipset information, etc. for debugging purposes reply to this with the appropriate command lines, files, etc and I'll try my best to get the information for you. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Video card in Haier H51 laptop not correctly recognised as SiS. https://launchpad.net/bugs/52316 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
