I have the same problem also on 8.04 nautilus 2.22.5.1.

I have a folder: /home/barton/Pictures/Sept-2008 that show icons that do
not match the actual jpg. For example the file P1010004.JPG that is
shown is actually from /home/barton/Pictures/July2008 which has a file
of the same name but different content. When I open either file from
nautilus via Eye of GNOME 2.22.3 the correct picture is displayed. Also
Picasa displays the correct picture in the correct folder.
