I would argue that the payback is high. Build a hardy KVM guest with
768MB or 1GB of ram, then use 'gems'. The version of rubygems in hardy
can take hours to resolve dependencies because of the amount of memory
it uses especially when it starts swapping. Trying to install a single
gem which already had the dependencies installed has taken hours due to
this situation, which also makes the system unusable in the interim for
anything else.
